POSITION TITLE: Electrician Apprentice

REPORTS TO: Electrician Foreman
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months
HOURLY SALARY RANGE: Minimum $19.41, Midpoint $23.39, Maximum $27.37
Primary Purpose
Assist in maintaining, repairing, and installing electrical systems, services, and equipment. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all electrical fixtures and systems in district facilities.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
High school diploma or GED, preferred
Valid Texas driver's license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to apply and receive valid apprentice electrician license
Knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring and operating principles of motors
Knowledge of local electrical codes
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to use hand and power tools
Experience
Three months experience in electrical field or combination of education and experience; clear driving record
Major Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repair
- Assist with installing and repairing wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
- Assist with installing and repairing control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, and circuit-breaker panels.
- Assist with installing and connecting power supply wiring cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
- Assist with diagnosing and resolving problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments and equipment.
- Assist with testing continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments.
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
- Repair or recommend replacement of electrical appliances, including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers, and dryers.
- Detect needed repairs on building, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
- Assist in repair of security and fire alarm systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Work irregular hours and respond to emergency calls as needed.
Records and Inventory - Maintain inventory of District-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
Safety - Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor.

Environment: Work outside and inside, near electrical lines, on slippery or uneven surfaces, on ladders and scaffolding, around machinery with moving parts; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, fumes, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; frequent districtwide travel; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours
