Under the direct supervision of the Director of Hospice, the responsibilities of the Volunteer Coordinator include:

  • Assumes the authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing the hospice volunteer program.
  • Conducts all phases of the new volunteer program from recruiting to training.
  • Provides ongoing supervision and periodic evaluation of all volunteers to assure they are following the established policies and procedures of Hospice.
  • Develops and maintains personnel files and records of services delivered on all volunteers.
  • Matches and schedules volunteer's with patients and families/caregivers.
  • Ensures that all volunteers meet the necessary health and background check requirements.
  • Develops, maintains, and performs all related duties of the volunteer program.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the Volunteer Education Program with the Director of Hospice and revises policies in accordance with NHPCO standards and practices.
  • Assures that the patient's rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property, and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints, are followed by all volunteers.
  • Works with the Director of Social Service/Bereavement Coordinator in assigning, organizing, and training bereavement volunteers in the Bereavement Program.
  • Assists with all hospice events.
  • Promotes and educates the community regarding the hospice program.

Requirements

Requirements include the ability to conduct volunteer activity, including coordination, recruiting, public relations, and fundraising. Two or more years of supervisory experience and/or Bachelor's degree preferred. Must be able to execute a supportive and sensitive approach to volunteers, patients, and family/caregiver needs.
