Job Summary/Description:

Under general direction, assists with the daily operations of the Universitys Mail Services Department and Print Shop. This position will work in mail services 8am 12pm, ensuring compliance with Federal USPS guidelines as well as adherence of ASU policies. Then will work in print shop 1 pm 5pm, ensuring quality prints are created and delivered to campus users in adequate time.

Typical Duties/Job Duties:

  1. Post office activities to ensure compliance with United States Postal Service (USPS) regulations and procedures as well as university policies. Including but not limited to mail preparation, inquiries, custom forms and other special services, change of address forms, bulk mailings, issuance/return of mailbox keys, change locks, replacement keys.
  2. Ensures the safety and security of all items. Sales, petty cash disbursements, deposits, office inventory, accurate mail sorting and distribution, package tracking, delivery and reporting. Processing meter mail, and bulk mailings for other departments and provide assistance to all departments on the proper procedure of bulk mailing adherence to guidelines and submitting USPS paperwork online.
  3. Assists in establishing pricing for individual jobs and repetitive charges based on customer needs and requests. Sets priorities for reproduction jobs on campus based on customer needs. Examines proof copy to assure accurate reproduction of color, centering of print, and conformance of copy to layout specifications. Sets up, adjusts, and operates image setter to produce paper plates which are then used to reproduce original materials. Make deliveries of completed print jobs to their designated location. Unload and unpack shipments of materials and place in the designated areas.
  4. Operates auxiliary machines such as collator, stapler, paper cutter, punch, folder, and plastic wrap machine. Make work assignments and review the work of designated personnel; assists in the training of designated personnel; advises supervisor regarding specific personnel actions. Operates offset press to produce halftone, single, or multicolor copies of text, drawings, graphs or other materials.
  5. Interacts in a professional and service-oriented manner with students, faculty, staff, vendors and others contacted in the course of work. Provides leadership in the improvement of customer service to customers. Serves on University committees and advisory groups as requested; attends professional conferences, trainings, and other meetings.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Operation and basic maintenance requirements of technology and office equipment (including postal and print equipment);
  • Supplies used in the printing process, including various weights, types, and uses of paper;
  • The principles and procedures of offset presswork including the use of oil and rubber base inks, varnishes, reducers and dryers;
  • The mixing and matching of inks according to sample jobs and PMS swatch books;
  • The storage and use of chemicals and cleaning agents;
  • Hazards and safety precautions necessary;
  • Considerable knowledge of computer software such as Corel Draw, Word, & Publisher, etc.;
  • Basic accounting, bookkeeping practices and procedures.

Ability to:
  • Read and understand laws, rules, instructions, operation and maintenance manuals, procedures, and other related materials;
  • Perform work requiring accuracy, and attention to detail;
  • Work effectively under time pressure and meet critical deadlines as assigned;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work using principles of good customer service;
  • Stand for long periods of time, and lift up to 50 lbs;
  • Process multiple color printing including four-color process printing;
  • Maintain and adjust equipment used in the print shop;
  • Interpret Domestic and International mailing practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED plus one year experience in a postal or print shop related setting.
  • Capable of multitasking in a fast paced office environment with frequent interruptions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a university atmosphere.
